Bank of gametes

Sometimes, starting a family is possible thanks to someone who decides to donate.

Behind each sample is a person who underwent evaluations before we accepted their donation.

Before it reaches you

The bank stores donated eggs and sperm that can be used in fertility treatments. You can check what options are available and how they coordinate with your plan.

In clinical language, eggs and sperm are called gametes, hence the name. Eggs are preserved by vitrification, a very rapid freezing that prevents crystals from forming inside the cell.

A bank is not just a place to store samples. Before accepting a donation, we review tests, family history, and conduct necessary interviews.

How it is used in your treatment

These four stages help you understand the evaluation, options, and their use in treatment.

  1. 01

    First call

The first conversation allows you to share your story and questions about donation. The medical evaluation will help determine if your treatment requires donated eggs or sperm.

  2. 02

    Criteria

We talk to you about what you need and what you are looking for. We put it in writing so that the options we present meet those needs.

  3. 03

    The selection

The team explains the available options and the criteria considered for your treatment. You can review the information, ask questions, and understand the consents before deciding.

  4. 04

    Use in treatment

The team coordinates the availability and use of the sample according to the treatment plan.

What is studied in a donor

Each donation undergoes evaluations and consents. You can learn how this process is organized and what information you can receive, respecting the privacy of the donor.

  • General medical study

The medical history, background, and relevant studies for the donation are reviewed. The team can explain what is evaluated and for what purpose.

  • Infectious disease study

Infection controls are part of the evaluation and management of samples. You can inquire about what controls are performed and how their validity is confirmed.

  • Genetic study

Genetic studies can provide information about some conditions that could be transmitted. Their results have limits and are interpreted based on the test performed and the treatment plan.

  • Psychological assessment

The donor receives information about the process and participates in interviews to discuss their decision, questions, and needs.
