Method R.O.P.A
In the R.O.P.A. method, one of you provides the eggs and the other carries the pregnancy.
It can also be the other way around. This way, both participate in the same story in different ways.
- Who are the mothers
- You and your partner, both
- Who carries the pregnancy
- Whomever you decide
- Where
- Bogotá, Colombia
Sharing the journey to motherhood
One of you shares her eggs, which are fertilized in the lab with donor sperm to create the embryo. Then, that embryo is transferred to the uterus of the other, who carries the pregnancy.
In clinical terms, it is a in vitro fertilization with what they call partner egg receptionIt is the name of an option where each participates differently in the treatment.
It is a treatment in which both can biologically participate in the arrival of their child: one provides the eggs and the other carries the pregnancy. For many couples, this has a very special meaning. Therefore, deciding who does what deserves time, conversation, and space to think it through together.
The complete journey
These six stages help them understand the process. Timelines are reviewed based on their studies and treatment plan; the team will explain the expected dates and possible adjustments.
- 01
First call
A 45-minute video call to listen to them and discuss their questions. They can share their story and learn how to start the medical evaluation, without having to decide that day.
- 02
Studies of the two
The team reviews the health and studies of both, according to their participation in the treatment. Each can raise their questions, preferences, and needs.
- 03
The decision
The results help discuss who will provide the eggs and who will carry the pregnancy. Their wishes and how each feels about that participation are also important. They can take time to think about it together.
- 04
Stimulation and laboratory
The one providing the eggs receives medication and monitoring according to the medical plan. Then the extraction is performed, and the laboratory work begins. The team will explain the appointments and care for each stage.
- 05
Preparation and transfer
The uterus of the one who will carry the pregnancy is prepared, and the transfer is scheduled. The team will explain how it is done, what care follows, and how they can support each other during this stage.
- 06
Pregnancy and follow-up
The team shares the information from the monitoring in the app. After the transfer, a pregnancy test is performed, and if the pregnancy continues, the corresponding follow-up is done.
The conversation that truly matters
The decision about who provides the eggs and who carries the pregnancy can have personal significance for each. The team can help them understand the medical information and discuss their preferences.
-
What their studies say
The results can guide the medical recommendation. They can ask how they influence and what alternatives exist for them.
-
The age of each one
For some, it is important that the baby has a genetic link; for others, the most important thing is to experience the pregnancy. Sometimes, being clear about this helps in making the decision.
-
What each one wants
Each can experience the idea of providing eggs or carrying the pregnancy differently. Their wishes and doubts deserve a respectful space for conversation.
-
How their country recognizes them
The legal recognition of both as mothers depends on the country and their circumstances. They can review with a lawyer what documents and procedures would apply.

The legal aspects for your family

What we are often asked
-
One of you has the genetic link to your baby while the other carries the pregnancy, or vice versa. Both are part of your child's story. The way each mother is legally recognized depends on the country where you live. We review this with you from the beginning, and our legal team coordinates what is necessary so you know what to expect before the birth.
-
They can explore that possibility. The medical evaluation of both and their situation at that time will help understand what options they have for a new treatment.
-
Donor sperm is used. They can discuss with the team the evaluations performed, the available information, and the criteria considered for their treatment.
-
The team can review the studies and explain what difficulties have been encountered, if there are treatment options, and what alternatives can be considered. If they are considering surrogacy, they will also need to discuss its medical, personal, and legal aspects.
