After a pregnancy ultrasound: questions that help you understand the next step
A calm guide for intended parents to discuss an ultrasound report, its limits and follow-up with the pregnancy care team.

An Ultrasound Is Just One Part of Your Journey
Receiving an ultrasound update can be a very special moment for intended parents. Seeing an image of your baby can bring happiness, excitement and, sometimes, a few questions, especially when you are in another country and cannot attend the appointment in person.
During a surrogacy journey, every update can help you feel closer to your baby. However, sometimes a picture or a short message does not answer all your questions. And that is completely normal.
So, how can you better understand ultrasound updates and stay connected throughout the pregnancy?
What Should You Ask After an Ultrasound?
An ultrasound allows the medical team to check different aspects of the pregnancy. What is examined depends on the purpose of the scan and the stage of the pregnancy.
If you have questions after receiving an update, here are three helpful questions you can ask:
What was checked during this ultrasound? Understanding its purpose can help you know what the medical team was looking for.
What did the doctor confirm? Ask which findings are clear and whether anything needs further evaluation.
Is another appointment or test needed? If follow-up is recommended, ask what it involves and when it is expected.
Remember, an ultrasound cannot answer every question. If something is unclear, the best next step is to speak with the healthcare professional responsible for prenatal care. An image alone cannot tell you everything about your baby's health.
How Can You Stay Connected When You Are Far Away?
Many intended parents experience pregnancy from another country. Even if you cannot attend every appointment in person, you can still be part of this journey and feel closer to your baby.
At Fertility Dreams, we want distance to feel less like a barrier during these special moments. Our intended parents can watch ultrasounds live, and each ultrasound is then uploaded to our own app, where they can access it again whenever they wish.
This allows you to follow your baby's development and share in the excitement of each stage, even when you are thousands of miles away.
Clear communication with the gestational carrier and the medical team is also important. You can agree on how updates will be shared, who will explain the results and how you can ask questions after each appointment.
If the medical information is in a language you do not fully understand, ask for a clear explanation in your preferred language whenever possible.
It can also help to keep a simple note of what the doctor explained, any questions you still have and the date of the next appointment. This makes it easier to keep track of important information without feeling that you need to understand everything at once.
Throughout the journey, the gestational carrier's privacy and consent remain essential. Staying connected also means communicating with care and respecting the arrangements agreed upon by everyone involved.
Understanding the Journey, One Step at a Time
It is natural to want reassurance when you receive news about your baby. Sometimes, an update answers your questions; other times, it may bring new ones.
You do not need to interpret every image or understand every medical term on your own. Your questions matter, and your healthcare team is there to help you understand what each update means.
At Fertility Dreams, we believe that building a family is about more than medical appointments. It is also about feeling informed, supported and connected throughout the journey.
Every ultrasound is one moment in a much bigger story: the story of your growing family.
