The stages of a surrogacy process
The process includes evaluation, medical and legal planning, embryo creation, surrogate preparation, transfer, pregnancy, and baby paperwork. Some tasks proceed in parallel; others depend on the outcome of the previous one.

Knowing the stages helps understand where you are and what the next decision is. Not all families go through the process at the same pace.
Before the transfer
- Review the medical case and legal viability.
- Define where the eggs and sperm will come from.
- Create or evaluate the available embryos.
- Evaluate the surrogate mother and agree on expectations and responsibilities.
- Prepare the treatment and confirm necessary consents.
After the transfer
First, the result of the pregnancy test is awaited. If the pregnancy progresses, obstetric follow-up begins. After birth, care for the baby and paperwork for registration and travel follow.
Why a date may change
A pending study, a lab result, or a clinical decision can shift the schedule. A delay does not automatically mean something is wrong.
You can request a summary of the current stage, what remains to complete it, and who can help with pending tasks. To organize dates, check how long a process takes.
